Diet soda drinkers face an increased risk of heart attack and stroke when compared to people who don't drink any soda, says study. Drinking diet soda every day was associated in 48 percent increase in risk of heart attack or stroke compared with same-aged people who didn’t drink diet sodas.

The researchers used data obtained though the multi-ethnic, population-based Northern Manhattan Study to examine risk factors for stroke, heart attack and other vascular events such as blood clots in the limbs. While 901 participants reported drinking no soda at the start of the study, 163 said they drank one or more diet sodas per day.

People who reported eating more than 4,000 milligrams of sodium daily -- the amount contained in four large orders of French fries in the United States faced twice the risk of stroke as people who consumed less than 1,500 milligrams per day.

Diet soda consumption was associated with white race, diabetes, elevated blood sugar, low HDL cholesterol, elevated waist circumference and body mass index, peripheral vascular disease, and metabolic syndrome.

People with a lot of risk factors for vascular disease, might want to reduce the amount of diet soda they consume. Those risk factors would include high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, smoking, a family history of cardiovascular disease, metabolic syndrome and a history of cardiovascular events.

There is no scientific evidence to support the idea that diet soda uniquely causes increased risk of vascular events or stroke, to suggest that they are harmful with no credible evidence does a disservice to those trying to lose weight or maintain a healthy weight.

Raw foodism can include any diet of primarily unheated food, or food cooked to a temperature less than 40 degrees. The most popular raw food diet is a raw vegan diet, but other forms may include animal products or meat.

Most raw foodists enjoy the taste of high fat foods, because fat carries flavour whether served plain avocado or in simple combinations. Sprouts probably contain the largest amount of nutrients per unit of any food known. Enzymes that initiate and control most chemical reactions in our body are activated in the sprouting process. This helps convert proteins into amino acids, starch into glucose and increases the value of vitamins.

The raw food diet contains fewer fats and saturated fat than the typical Western diet. It is also low in sodium and high in potassium, magnesium, folate, fiber and health-promoting plant chemicals called phytochemical.

They also had a vitamin B12 deficiency. This finding is consistent with another study of raw foodists in Finland. B12 is found naturally only in animal products. These properties are associated with a reduced risk of diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, and cancer. A study published in the Journal of Nutrition found that consumption of a raw food diet lowered plasma total cholesterol and triglyceride concentrations.

Proponents of the raw food diet believe it has numerous health benefits, including: Reduced risk of heart disease, increased energy, Better digestion, Weight loss and improved skin appearance. Many foods in raw food diets are simple to prepare, such as fruits, salads, meat, and dairy. Other foods can require considerable advanced planning to prepare for eating.

Eggs are finally getting the respect they deserve, yet some still fear consuming them. Egg yolks are no different. They contain 100% of the fat soluble carotenoids lutein and zeaxanthin vitamins A, D, E and K as well as found in the egg. They also contain more than 90% of the calcium, iron, phosphorus, zinc, thiamin, folate, vitamin B6 and vitamin B12.

The egg white contains more protein than the yolk, but it’s only because the yolk is smaller. Furthermore, we know that protein really should only consist of about 15 to 30% of our caloric intake, with the bulk of the rest coming from healthy animal fats. It doesn’t make much sense to seek out sources of proteins without fat and protein alone depletes stores of vitamin A. Mother Nature is wise though and put fat around most sources of animal protein in nature.

Eggs provide key nutrients, such as a nice dose of the phytochemical, lutein found in the yolk, thought to ward off age-related macular degeneration, and high quality protein most of which is in the egg white.

The human body cannot completely and safely digest a raw egg white. Avidin, which is found in raw egg whites, blocks the uptake of Vitamin B6 Biotin causing a vitamin deficiency. You must cook the egg white to neutralize the Avidin and allow your body to safely digest the protein and utilize all its Amino acids. So, we say that consuming six egg omelets is too much in human body as egg is a high protein food.

A typical hot dog has 280 calories, 15 grams of fat, and 1,250 mg of sodium, while a 6-ounce kielbasa has 330 calories, 24 grams of fat, and 1,590 mg sodium.

When you're hot, you need to stay hydrated. But watch what you choose to quench your thirst. If you're drinking 12-ounce containers of beer, sweetened soda, sweet tea, energy drinks, or juice drinks, you're probably taking in about 150 calories a pop. A cup of soft-serve ice cream can have 380 calories and 22 grams of fat. Make it a Dairy Queen chocolate chip cookie dough blizzard and the calories soar to 720, with 28 grams of fat, Baskin Robbins' two-scoop French vanilla and peanut butter 'n' chocolate on a sugar cone has 660 calories and 39 grams of fat. And Ben and Jerry’s two-scoop Chunky Monkey in a waffle cone has 659 calories and 34 grams of fat.

A salad can be the perfect no-cook summer dinner, light, refreshing, and a perfect way to get your produce and lean protein. But if you top your salad with high-calorie items, it can go from lean to fattening in a hurry.

I got this bag for free near earth Day and it seems well put together even with recycled products,. However, the handles were not very strong and we've had to repair it twice. One positive point is that it is not emblazoned with a specific store logo. It now serves as a light lunch bag. For a free bag, it was worth it. If I had to pay .99, bad deal.

His pediatrician informed me that the childrens Claritin contains 5mg of the active ingredient, and the adult RediTabs contains 10mg...thus cutting the RediTab in half results in the same dosage as the childrens. one thing you find when you are diagnosed with gluten-intolence is that you rapidly want to find a substitute for various food that you can nolonger eat. This is the first gluten-free 'granola-equivalent' bar that I have tried: it is moist, not sweet (due to the dark cholocate component), a little chewy and not at all heavy (typical lightness that I have found with many of the other gluten free food like pasta and bread). And then it is all over before you know it: may be this is a good feeling as I used to get this horrible heavy feeling after eating an oat-based granola bar. I love it so far and plan to give my father who is also on gluten free diet to try it too.

I've been taking this product for two years now. It was prescribed by my doctor after I stopped smoking and gained quite a bit of weight. I lost 60 pounds but also dieted vigorously and exercised regularly at the gym on the treadmill for 35 minutes. Oily discharge sometimes? you bet, but only when I ate meals with a high fat content. Couple bits of advice: if you feel like you need to fart, don't. You can't be sure of what will come out. Restrain yourself until you get to a toilet, just in case. Also, not only fried chicken and fried food have fat. Any kind of red meat has fat content. Rule of thumb for me is if calories from fat are high, I take a pill with the meal. This product is a lifesaver but it only works with diet and exercise.

When I started taking alli, I was 235 lbs and in less than 5 months, I lost over 35 lbs. Besides taking alli, I did exercise and monitor what I ate, but by no means was I being very strict. I would try to exercise for at least 30 minutes about 2-3 times a week and do stretches in the morning before work. I still indulged in the foods I loved on the weekends (like pizza & chicken wings), but during the weekdays, I would try to limit my calorie intake to 1500-2000 calories a day. Yes, if I hadn't taken alli, I still would have lost weight, but it would not have been as much.

Remember, you have to burn 3,500 calories to lose 1.0-lb (or eat 3,500 calories to gain 1.0-lb), and your body will burn between 2,000-2,500 calories a day depending on your age, weight, height, and sex. Therefore, if you watch your calorie intake and do some form of exercise (anything is better than nothing), then you will lose weight.

The benefit from taking alli is that it will help reduce the amount of calories your body absorbs even more by blocking a percentage of the fat you consume, and therefore helping you lose even more weight then you would with just diet and exercise alone. However, if you are still binge eating and consuming more than 2,500+ calories a day, alli will not make up for that... it is not a miracle drug. It is intended for people who are on a diet (or at least watching what they eat) and want help to lose a little more weight.

The side-affects from taking alli vary from person to person and just like any other drug, it is not for everybody. For me, the only side-affect I encountered were the "treatment affects" or oily stools. Yes, this kind of side effect is very unpleasant and sometimes inconvenient, but it is also controllable and is a clear indication that the product is working, which is more than I can say for other weight loss pills I've tried.

If you eat a bunch of fatty & greasy foods, then you will have more oils (or fat) in your stool because there was more fat for alli to block (demonstrating that it is working). Instead of getting upset and blaming the drug, take it as a lesson that you need to become more disciplined and consider this the consequence for cheating on your diet. Maybe it will help you realize just how bad some of the foods you eat are for you; it was definitely a wake-up call for me.

I'm going to keep using alli, watch my calorie in-take, & exercise (some) and hopefully I will lose another 35-lbs!

Don't expect some pill to magically take the weight away to never-ever land. It takes time and exercise.

But this pill helps.

You do loss much more weight and the quick results are encouraging.

But if you don't eat a low fat diet, you will have issues controlling your bowels and it will end up on your pants.

My husband started at 360, 4 weeks later he's at 320.

I started at 165 and now I'm at 156.

Unless you are committed and capable of loosing some weight with out the pill, don't bother wasting your money.

Hello,

I started taking this product on Monday. Today is the Saturday after, only 6 days later.

I have been doing EXACTLY what the book says to do, by eating a low fat diet, (mostly frozen weight watcher meals), Exercising (so far 30-45 min on the treadmill 4x this week), and taking one capsule with each meal 3x a day.

I have had ZERO problems or "treatment effects".

I am 6.75 pounds lighter than I was on Monday!

I'm sure some of it is water weight, as they say.. but still.. I'm very impressed by the results. I'm sure that the weight loss will slow down next week, but you never know... we shall see!

Just thought I'd share that, and also.. the fact, that I bought my supply at Costco. Costco has the 150 count starter kit for around , much less than on here. It's definitely worth the trip to Costco!

If you eat too much fat, I've heard horror stories about people losing it in their pants. So you have to stick to the plan! And actually... the thought of crapping my pants, is a good stimulus to not eat fattening food! So for me, it actually has helped me stay away from fattening food when I'm "in the moment of temptation".
