ALOE VERA PLANT

Aloe vera is one of the oldest and well known medicinal plant gifted by nature, which is often referred to as 'The Miracle plant'. Since many years, the plant is being used in the treatment of various diseases and also used in beauty products. There are about 200 varieties of the plant, but only 4 or 5 of them are used in medicinal field.

Origin: No exact origin is known but many researchers say that it is probably originated from Northern Africa. Now widely spread in Europe, America and India.

Aloe vera is a plant with no stem or with a short stem. The edges of the leaves are thorny but not sharp enough to hurt and make one bleed. If the leaves are dissected horizontally, a colourless gel is obtained which has got many medicinal properties. The plant grows from 1 to 4 feet height and the maximum grown plant contains more than 35 fleshy leaves each about 15-25cm or even more than that. The corrugated lining containing the bitter juice, most commonly referred to as the latex has laxative properties. Since the leaves are very fleshy, to protect it from easy ruptures, a protective covering by name 'Rind' is present on the leaf. Hence the plant is safe always from any pest attacks. Sap, a layer of bitter fluid protects the plant from other animals.

The mucilaginous gel of Aloe vera contains about 8 amino acids. These are either not manufactured in human body or manufactured in very less amount. Oral consumption of these gel will substitute the nutritional requirement and helps in maintenance of good health.
